A problem I've had all my life, which is starting to make me miserable, is that I have a huge tendency to subconsciously dwell on memories of unpleasant situations I've been in. Usually, when people encounter an unpleasant situation (e.g. a break-up in a relationship, being told off by someone at wo...

Is there a reason you want to do besides 1) having always wanted to do it and 2) having little experience doing anything else? Also because it's the natural extension of what I've done before and enjoyed, which includes learning mathematics at an advanced level. However, in my case, my ability to d...

So I think the first, and most important, question is: 1) Why do you want to go back to grad school? Does research interest you or is it a failure daemon to be exorcised? I think the reason I want to do a PhD in the future is because it seems like the natural way to extend my mathematical knowledge...

This is a good suggestion. Lucking during my times at university (and during my subsequent teacher training programme - as I have decided to teach for a while) I was offered non-medical help in the form of a mentor, who can encourage the use of CBT-style techniques and also just provide an impartial...

It sounds to me like you have definite grounds for suing the employers, as the way they seem to have handled things has been very kack-handed. If they were that worried about you having Asperger's, then they should have made a disability section on their job application form. It sounds like they've ...

I am a mathematics graduate who recently dropped out of a PhD for personal reasons. I also have Asperger's Syndrome which I was diagnosed with in 1996. Since dropping out, I have been thinking long and hard about why it did not work out, and something that's just occurred to me is that being on the ...

Hey guys, I recently started a mathematics PhD at a British university in south-eastern England. I've always wanted to do a PhD and take my subject further, and I've identified an area of mathematics in which there is a high demand for research and further deepening mathematical theory (basically on...

I am about to start a PhD in mathematics, so I could maybe offer some advice. It really depends what level you're at - but I'd say the most important thing to do as a mathematician is to make sure you understand everything that is going on. At schools in the UK, there's a very large emphasis on just...

I suppose it depends on what it was you did and how long ago it was. If anyone was harmed then yes they could definitely report it regardless of how long ago it happened. Otherwise I'm not so sure. What if nobody was harmed but it happened within the past week? Then I would only speak to someone yo...

What's the point? I'm just a "F****ing stupid, slobbish pyscho that cares only about [myself]". My own mother just told me she hates me, my father is offically dead to me, my brother Matt left me, all my friends are gone and not a soul in the world cares that every morning I have to pull the knife ...

I'm thinking of completely ditching Facebook at some point in the near future (or restricting it to a handheld device other than my laptop), because it's been doing more harm than good lately. I use it to keep in touch with university friends and to provide academic help for those who ask, but even ...

Apart from the D, those are not terrible grades. Remember, a C is a pass.

At GCSE, a C is a pass, but at A-level (so AS and A2) an E is a pass. You only fail AS/A2 exams if you don't get an E grade, so you'd get a U.

I don't tend to give off the wrong impression by my appearance, but more from behaviour. For example, I am an intelligent and mature person, but occasionally I have moments of making social trip-ups (e.g. forgetting what someone said 5 seconds ago, or saying something that I've said before) and peop...
