That sounds eerily familiar... my husband is bipolar and his rages take this same course. Bipolar is sometime a comorbid with autism and can be somewhat controlled - or at least lessened - with medication. It may be worth it to seek out a professional opinion... rages like this are not normal in any...

Most early intervention is still currently aimed at teaching kids HOW to fake it and fit in... literally teaching them how to pretend to be NT. Some can't manage it at all, some have some degree of success here and there and others get pretty damn good at it. In all cases, it does not change the fac...

You know what one of the most miserable jobs on the planet is? Working retail. It doesn't really matter what your 'floor walker' does, it'll be wrong half the time. Retailers insist that their employees greet, engage and converse with their customers in order to sell them the products they need. The...

Forum: Parents' Discussion   Topic: Why is the first emotion always anger?

As others suggested, my first reaction was also 'frustration/anxiety'. Does your son have a grasp on basic emotions? I know we needed to teach my daughter which emotions were which - she had no innate understanding of what 'anger', 'happy', 'sad' meant. When she was showing emotion we'd constantly n...

Nine going on ten and my daughter wears elastic laces and velcro. The few shoes she owns with laces she only wears when we are together for family time events and they are always double tied. With dyspraxia issues she may never master lace tying or she may just suddenly one day get it. We are slowly...

I understand the point of small-talk, and its supposed importance in social interactions, but for me, when engaged in small talk, I feel like an animal trapped in a cage. It's honestly exhausting to try and maintain it for long, and I feel the most amazing sense of relief when it's over! ^^^ THIS!

There is no question that I have altered brain chemistry on top of my 'different wiring'. Looking at all the challenges I face, the most obvious culprit is compromised serotonin production. You would think that SSRI's would have some positive effect but by and large they do not. I don't think you ca...

State trooper said 'go with the flow of traffic'. If everyone is 20MPH over the speed limit then its actually safer if you do that too. Of course we got that jewel of wisdom getting stopped on the turnpike doing 110... luckily he didn't get a clean clock on us thanks to truck traffic.

Mom was young, healthy and petite when she got pregnant with me - around 110lbs. And pregnancy hormones were hard on her - she lost weight while pregnant.

Constantly. And even in proof reading it, my mind will fill in the missing letter/word/punctuation. One of my worst fails is forgetting to put the 'n't' contraction on words. Forgetting those three little characters completely changes the meaning of your words and I never see it until the comments s...

I have mild sensory issues with sound, smells and sometimes textures. I also have some mild sound processing issues which makes for an interesting combination of challenges that really just don't seem to make sense together. I can do loud concerts - but I cannot distinguish instruments in the music....

I'm not diagnosed but my daughters mobile therapist doesn't doubt my Aspie assessment. The more she visits, the more she sees how much I cover and tries to act as translator between my husband and I. My daughters school district is aware that I may be on the spectrum and they have made accommodation...

It's a great way to cut down on the cost of one's food, whilst simultaneously becoming educated, and eating healthfully! There are lots of books - my favorites are those of Samuel Thayer "Nature's Garden" and "Forager's Harvest" -- He has continued in the same spirit as Euell Gibbons, confirming an...
