HI everyone, I posted this in the love and dating section yesterday and somebody suggested I post it here. I may be talking about my husband not son (although his son is definitely AS as well) but since communication issues are, I would assume, universal, I thought I'd take the advice. Hope that's ...

People describe existence over 40 as some sort of postponed hibernation with no social life. What may be reasonable to observe is that people with AS……Us ……may consider having no friends or socialisation as a " normal" part of being AS. What more can you expect from people with AS than AS type tende...

It is not possible for a neurotypical to understand what AS is. You could explain it until you're blue in the face and they won't get it. Even professionals in the Mental Health Field, while they can describe the externally visible symptoms, I don't think most of them really understand what it's li...

If AS is a genetic disorder then there should be no difference in prevalence of it being diagnosed in boys and girls. The diagnostic criteria was originally done by Hans Asperger on observation of the behaviour of 4 boys and this probably skews the diagnostic criteria toward recognition in boys. Gir...

yeah its a common issue here in the UK as well. When children with AS turn 18 and become adults they also become "cured" Then there has been a recent- within the last ten years- explosion of information about AS and more AS adults are having that aaahaaaa moment after diagnosis but with minimal supp...

A one sentence description?

thats a challenge.

Try "a condition with different manifestations that includes an inability to process some sensory information, difficulty interpreting that information and being unable to respond in an expected manner."

you need to be happy for what you have, not angry for what you don't have….this isn't some chinese fortune cookie-glass half full philosophy……sometimes you need to recognise and acknowledge what you have…..not what you don't have…not what you want…….but what you have. your life gets better after a d...

yes, this is not an uncommon observation amongst AS people. Tiredness and fatigue- plenty of effort and little focus. I find that people with AS tend to do well when they are told what to do. Unable to plan and prepare this extends to their diet and ability to look after themselves. Plenty of AS eat...

Ive noticed that more than any other condition people seem to strive to obtain an AS diagnosis. Ive noticed this in myself too. I feel like theres a profound sense of validation attached to the condition its as if it would take all the traits that we associate with shame and rejection and turn them...

Were you a gifted child? How are you seen as an adult? I was regarded as a gifted child. I was especially good at art and english. I was a bit slow with math. As an adult I feel mediocre. Why did I excel as a child, but am inept as a adult? I was encouraged into an artistic sort of career. I am not...

This may be the " perfectionism" that others describe in this with AS. I think it is a little bit " more" I use the analogy of "closing the loop" To give an example- I don't like when there are too many windows open on my computer. I need one window open and I can handle that. When there is a series...

your "hate studies" post is pretty typical of someone with AS. Some people are able to learn through formal lectures and reading while others ( usually under 35) are familiar with ( and prefer) online material, youtube and other online interact at your own time and pace type resources to learn. The ...
