You are welcome Jon81. Having spent a number of years "on this road" the one thing I can say is you can never predict the future. Those who remember me from years ago may remember that I was actually more worried for my son's future than my daughter's even though he had the "better&qu...

By 19 months I knew without a shadow of a doubt that my daughter was different, but I initially did not connect it to autism. She did not point, was not verbal yet, didn't always respond to her name, would headbang when melting down, arranged toys instead if playing with them...wait, what? I didn't ...

This isn't necessarily related to the exact content of your post, but I share it in case it is helpful. When my son was that age he had a hard time "playing" with most boys. Boys can be rough and some of their play can look like bullying when it isn't, and for a kid who can't understand so...

This was my 15 y/o son's statement to me last night. He got his report card and many of his teachers commented that he is capable of getting in the high 90's. He gets in the 90's for classes he likes, but mid-70's to 80's in the rest. He readily admits that his grades are NOT because the material is...

In the other thread you mentioned a hope that being in a "top" school would help prevent bullying, I didn't see the other thread. However, when I was planning on moving, my kids' pediatric neurologist advised me NOT to move to a well-known "top" district in our area. Their score...

My son (10th grade) is not bullied, but I attribute this to him being in a special STEM-focused high school where difference is widely accepted and a number of his classmates at least have spectrummy traits. My daughter (6th grade) is not bullied at school as per her report. For as politically incor...

My nephew has DS and is medically fragile. His immune system is compromised and he often winds up in the hospital for a cold. He has been on a vent numerous times for extended periods and has a trach. He is about to turn 3 and my sister has been told that he will no longer be able to receive service...

Your situation was pretty much mine to the t, with the exception that my husband has a good paying job, and I had 2 kids with issues. Many years ago, I was in your shoes, my daughter's (2 then, 11 now) diagnosis was new, my son's (6 then 15 now) diagnosis was new, and I was the one left in charge of...

It's not just girls...I have a teenaged son. From my perspective, he is definitely male. Always has been. The problem is, he does not perceive himself to be like his (sex-crazed) male counterparts, and he does not know what to make of it. At one point he said he wondered if he was gender neutral bec...

Do you have to be in the UK? I do not know how to answer the question about what authority are we in, because we are not in any.

Sometimes out loud I talk about things that, in my head, I know may not happen for my kids. I do this for a couple of reasons 1) Just because I think they may not happen doesn't mean they won't, but if I tell my kids I don't think they will ever happen, I might create a self-fulfilling prophesy, 2) ...

I agree with pddtwinmom. I have way more patience with my kids than with any other kids or any pets. I am BAP, but I can get overloaded and tend to need a lot of time to myself compared to other people. Even with that, I can maintain my patience with my kids. And my kids were VERY needy and dependen...

The truth is that the generation having the school aged children right now did not have the same access to diagnosis as children. A lot of them are undiagnosed. And then there is this idea of BAP, broader autism phenome - the idea that if you broaden things out and look for some traits of autism wi...
