i am interested in the language & wud very
much like to hear anothers' opinion of it ...

particularly: does it live up to the hype, and
how does it measure up against the other
languages -- such as C and C++ ? or java ?

thanks in advance,

-A

Tried doing something in perl once and was completely flummoxed by the weird syntax and multiple ways the same thing can be achieved.
Apparently one of perls foibles is that you code someone has written can be indecipherable to other perl experts.
There are newer scripting type languages like python and ruby you might want to look into also.

hm i heard all about this ya. deep language.

the reason for this apparently is to keep perl
5 compatible w/ perl 1 & such. in other words
theres sum completely obscure, obsolete stuff
jammed in there which has been kept in thru
/all/ the years; none of its documented any mo
well if you wanted to find about this old stuffs
you'd prolly have to go back to perl 1 (or 2 or
whatever) docs. way way back. dont care tho

i feel good about perl. gonna give it a spin.

ya 'new' doesn't always mean better though.

sure perl was made in '87 or wutever (anyway
sometime before the internet was made -- i
believe), but that doesnt mean its any less utile
than some newer or slicker looking language.

maybe just more thurough and matured duno
