Running Windows 7 on an iMac...

I'm going to be getting one of the new iMacs soon. However, I want to play some games that require Windows...

How difficult is it to install Windows 7 on one? Will it affect my computer in a bad way? Would it be easy enough to switch between 7 and OSX at will?

Why don't you just save a crapload of money, build your own PC for half the price, and have much better specs?

With Bootcamp on Mac you can easily install Windows 7 though. Well, When I last checked, summer of last year, it wasn't officially supported, but with an easy workaround it works fine, if it's not officially supported yet.

1.- No, it won't affect your computer.
2.- it's very easy to switch between one or the other

By default it enters to the mac system when you turn it on, so you don't have to pay any attention
3.- it's very easy to install windows, just follow the bootcamp app instructions.

Very easy; however depending on the iMac model it may be difficult to get the 64-bit version of Windows working properly. It can be done (just a matter of finding the correct info and pasting a line or two into the command prompt) so if you run into trouble post back here.


Only think I can think of is that it will likely screw up your clock, since Windows doesn't understand how time zones work. Again, this can be fixed relatively easily- post back if you need help.


You just reboot and pick one.
