I was a 5 year old kid on Dec 7, 1941. I never quite got over it and I never fully forgave the Japanese.

Were you even in Hawaii when it happened?
I appreciate the similarities to that and 9/11 for comparison. Though i never understood the feeling of collective personal anger; ie why would someone 1000 miles away feel affected. We never had that during the 7/7 bombing of London, or even the IRA bombings during the 80s and 90s. Most brits didnt give a s**t. There certainly wasn't a national 'vendetta' or appetite for vengeance.

If an American enlisted in the military (at the age of 17) on the day before WWII ended, he would be 84 years old. Even a German or Japanese soldier who was 14 years old on the day the surrender took place would be 80 years old by now.
... if they're still alive, of course.
When the last WWII veteran dies, we may finally be able to say that the war is over.

No. But I lost blood relatives in the Pacific War and my father was put in harm's way when he was drafted into the navy. Those bastards attacked Pearl Harbor and many Americans bled because of it.
I will not forget and I am reluctant to forgive.
If Gojiro attacks the Japanese Islands, I say send no help, let them die.

O RLY?
I seem to recall slavery, the racism of the founders, Andrew Jackson's inexcusable actions cumulating in the trail of tears, and the early settler's appalling treatment of north american natives in general to be thoroughly covered in history class. The U.S. government has taken actions throughout history to make amends as best it can for it's actions.
That said, even though Jackson, the worst US president in history, was a genocidal maniac, we continue to stamp his ugly mug on the twenty... At least we got a great Aqua teen hunger force ending out of it.
That said, since I've never read a Japanese textbook, I can't say whether they address it or not. Even if they don't, that doesn't excuse this, even in jest:

Seriously dude, WTF? If the Japanese die, who will make our videogames?!

You do realise that modern Japan has little or nothing to do with the same Japan that attacked Pearl Harbour? Its a modern parliamentary democracy whose population has an affection for American culture. Militarilly, its little more than an outpost for American forces in the pacific. It is in America's interest to defend Japan.
Its the same as harbouring a grudge against modern Germany for the holocaust.
