I have the original Civilization. I bought it back in 1994, and I am playing on my current computer, which I bought in 2003.

Is that Rome Total War or Medieval 2? Can't say I've tried either unfortunately.
I like the 4x strategy games like Civilization, as opposed to the ones that are purely focused on the military aspects.

Massive Civ fanboy. I have ALL the civ games and all the ex-packs.

I haven't played it since two years ago, I think, but I even helped with FreeCiv. Not a significant contribution, but my name is there.

I am a big fan of Civ 4, although I haven't bought the expansion pack yet. It is an awesome game. I also like Age of Empires III.

My son is nuts about this game, I'll have him post tomorrow. He's asleep now.

I liked Civ4 though I still hold that Civ2 is the best in the series. Also, I'd recommend looking into the Europa Universalis series if you're into history games.

I love civ 4 but its getting a little glitchy in hot seat where it wil constanly encounter problems and freeze  i loved everything that includes:
the AI
the gameplay
the genre (i love strategy games)

when i downloaded patches in an attempt to fix the glitch it got worse

I noticed this, too. I ended up reinstalling it and starting over again. It has worked fine since.
