batch delete tiny files
I was just transferring a bunch of files from an old computer and realized that I included a bunch of gif files that are really tiny. I think the computer somehow saved them without my knowledge, they seem to be ads from websites, etc. There are over 90,000 of them! Every time I try to delete them, it crashes my computer. I don't want to do it in segments, it will take forever. Is there a way to do it all without crashing?
How do I stop the computer from saving this crap in the future?
Thanks for any help!
My guess is that it was done probably by your browser. Browsers will cache items to the drive so as to load web pages faster. This includes lots of tiny gif files. You might want to flush the cache on the browser prior to backing it up or transferring the files. Not knowing what all you were transferring, this is just a guess but tiny gif files are pretty common items in the cache for web browsers.
Edit: Depending upon the browser you can manually clear the cache, or set it up so that when you close out the browser it purges it every time.
