Sandy Bridge or Haswell for my next PC build?
I'm planning on building a new gaming PC for a LAN party I'm going to in a few months, and I want to know if I should go straight for a Haswell-based build, or if I could save a few dollars and go for a Sandy Bridge. I know Sandy Bridge is an older architecture, but I've been using a Wolfdale-based Pentium Dual Core box for the last five years, and if it weren't for the allure of being able to run newer games, I would continue using this thing right until it wears out!
My point is, almost any newer Intel would be an upgrade over this old bird.
No, I'm not going for an AMD. They may be cheaper in the short run, but they generate a lot of heat and they don't deliver the same sort of performance Intels do.
Out of curiosity, I decided to price out a system based around the highest-end AMD APU, the A10-7850K Kaveri, after seeing this video:

I was pretty impressed with its performance, though when I finished pricing everything out, it didn't seem much cheaper than what I was originally going to go with, a Pentium G3220 paired with a Geforce GTX 750.
Here you can find the APU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819113359
Here was the CPU I was looking at before: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819116950
Here was the GPU I was looking at before: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814127788
Now, just from my estimations, the CPU I looked at before would most likely be better for single-threaded performance, and it would offer much more upgrading headroom due to it being on an LGA 1150 socket. As well, the GPU I was looking at before would likely beat the snot out of the APU. My question is, what could I get away with dialing back to for my GPU to achieve the same sort of performance as the APU, but at a lower cost?
EDIT: I'm considering looking at this GPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814103252
