Putting battery in HP Pavilion 17 laptop (w/ Wx 8)
This is a very difficult task. The setup instructions say to insert one part first and then swivel another part in, but they're not clear on how far you're supposed to insert the first part before swiveling the other part in, or whether to do the inserting and swiveling at the same time, and how exactly, at what exact angle, you are supposed to do the swiveling. I know your supposed to push the door knob back as you do it and that once it's inserted correctly, the door knob will go back on its own. There are times where I can get this perfectly after one or two tries, but other times where I will try over and over for 10, 20, 30 minutes, and it still does not go in properly! What on God's green earth! It's obvious that the instructions are not precise enough, because even trying to use them I cannot successfully insert the battery!
Anyone else have trouble?
I am extremely frustrated right now! Curse HP for their difficult-to-insert battery design! May the designers of this type of battery each suffer a major loss for the frustration and tribulation they have put me through by designing it like this!
What's worse, during one of my attempts I accidentally damaged the door knob so it doesn't work completely well anymore. I can still insert the battery if I happen to follow the secret hand movement formula for doing so (which apparently I am incapable of doing at the moment), but it now causes the battery to periodically drop out of the laptop.
Whenever I happen to follow the secret hand movement formula and insert the battery, it is always an accident; when it does happen, I did not expect it too, but apparently my hands and fingers did just the perfect thing for inserting the battery. I have no idea what I did differently in each of those times I was able to insert the battery; I was never able to learn from it, unfortunately.
I hate myself for this. I truly loathe myself for this inability. Inability in this kind of task has haunted me since childhood. Once, when I was a kid, a teacher wrote that I seemed to try to avoid engaging in any activity that required extensive, precise use of gross or fine motor skills, though they never seemed to understand why; $#!7 like this is why and has always been why. It's one frustration after another, people complaining about my inability to carry out these tasks which for them is easy, my knowing inferiority in this area, and frustration at the whole concept of this type of activity, which for me never led to any sort of pleasure or joy, but only revelation of further inability, pointless repetitive attempts that all end in failure, and the biting criticism of others, blaming me, accusing me, hating me for my inability.
Have you tried watching videos on YouTube? There are dozens that demonstrate basic laptop repair.
My motor/co-ordination skills aren't great either and DIY has never been my strong suit, but I recently learned how to build my own PC and all the information is out there on YouTube and various sites.
And being able to take the battery in and out is an invaluable skill when your system crashes and you can't get a response out of any of the buttons; even if you unplug the PSU, the laptop just switches to battery power so the only way you can turn the thing off to reboot is by pulling out the battery.
