I'm not sure if this is the best forum to ask, but it does deal with computers! Anyways, I have noticed recently that on this site (and one other site), my browser will occasionally send me to some ad site. It will basically open up a new tab in my browser automatically to the new site. This happens very rarely, like once every 3-5 days, but it has happened enough to make me concerned. Mostly it is a harmless site (it sent me to perfectworld.com a few times asking me to download some new game, and that is a reputable/safe site), but today it sent me to a site that tried to give my computer a virus.

I would normally think my computer had a virus or something, but I have done scans (both in safe mode and normal mode) using my virus scanner (AVG), Spybot search/destroy, Ad-Aware, Roguekiller, Malwarebytes, and Adwcleaner, and all of them come up with nothing. And since it only happens on this site and one other and extremely infrequently, it makes me think that it may just be malicious advertisements or something that occasionally pop up.

Any thoughts? I haven't been able to find much information from google searches.

I have this happen quite a bit when I use a touch screen. For me (and possibly for you) it is easy to accidentally touch an ad which of course causes it to open in a new tab. Many ads are placed right next to where you scroll up or down (probably on purpose) which makes it easy to accidentally touch and trigger the ad.

When using a mouse rather than a touch screen, I find it easier to avoid accidentally touch triggering the ads, but still sometimes slip up. If you have thoroughly gone through the adware possibilities (and you sure have!) you may be accidentally touch-triggering ads. Some of them seem to even stick out invisibly a centimeter beyond the actual ad. I say that because sometimes even getting anywhere near some ads will touch trigger them so maybe they stick out a little farther than they seem to with a background made to blend into your browser so that touch-triggering is almost inevitable.

The thing is, I've had it happen when I'm not even at my computer. I typically leave my browser/tabs open when I leave the computer, and I have come back to it with some ad open in a new tab. This happens extremely seldomly though.

will not get rid of most viruses these days. The viruses these days are much more tricky to get rid off and often require computer experts. Some of them are god aweful too and I mean god aweful, one internet virus on my computer made it so I couldn't open any programs, another one got on my girlfriends new labtop and completely disabled it to the point I couldn't even boot up!

Is there any way to even tell if I have a virus at all then? I would hate to go through the trouble of bringing my computer in if there is nothing wrong with it...I would rather know if it has a problem first before wasting the money/time to have a computer person look at it.

Like I said, this only happens like once every 2-3 weeks and my computer runs fine otherwise. It just does make me nervous.

I've had adware a couple times, and googling 'how to remove adware' always worked, but it was a frustrating couple hours. Not sure about the rest f the stuff
