can't install openoffice in xubuntu

i have been trying to install openoffice but it is such a pain in the but. even the .deb version has 8 .deb files and is hard to install. Please Help!! !

Can you give any more details? It probably requires a lot because its gnome based, right?

If its not a issue of space, install the gnome desktop, but keep running xcfe.

sudo aptitude install gnome-core then run the deb. should cut down dependencies drastically.

Isn't OOo included by default?

If not, just go to Add/Remove Applications, check the box. If that doesn't get the results you want, do it from Synaptic. I don't think OOo 3 is in *buntu yet, but there are online guides for getting it.

Fuzzy: Is OOo GNOME-based? It runs in Windows, Mac, and any *nix version, regardless of what window manager you have.

Well, OOo is in Mandrake/Mandriva by default and that's a KDE-defaulting distro

Here is a guide to help you install OpenOffice 3 LINK

Openoffice runs in gnome, kde, xfce...etc

Well the Synaptic Manager in Xubuntu doesn't let you install new software.

Well there is also 8 .deb files and i don't know what to do with them.

Can you post the error log? Or are you not getting errors, we need details here.

Odd. I've never played much with Xubuntu, but I know it has lighter office apps (Abiword, Gnumeric). There should still be an Add/Remove applications feature in there; I can't really see Ubuntu having disabled that for XFCE.

EDIT: In Xubuntu, go to Applications--System--Add/Remove. Type "open" in the search bar and you'll see openoffice come up. NB: this is version 2.4.1. If you want version 3, Dokken posted a link to a guide for doing that. I haven't tried it yet, but I will do so shortly and tell you what I run into.

EDIT 2: Are you using 32 or 64 bit Xubuntu?

gamefreak, did you go to the link I provided? If not, perhaps you should try and follow the directions in the link. If you tried it, give some details of what went wrong. Here the link again http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/10/1 ... 4-and-810/

you don't need to install gnome and i don't see why you would if you're using xfce. I assume you're using it for a reason
