I watched The Midnight Meat Train on Netflix a few days ago. I wasn't expecting great things from trying to turn such a short story into a full-length movie. I wasn't disappointed - somehow they managed to explain less than in the book. Also there were some points where it was trying too hard to be "cinematic."

Today I watched It Follows. Not something I ordinarily would have watched, but I've heard nothing but good things about it, so I figured I should while it's on Netflix. I was indifferent about it. I was pleased that there wasn't quite as much sex as I was expecting, but it still didn't do much for me. Maybe I'm just too used to more "hardcore" horror.

This is good hardcore horror to me:

And just to get more nostalagic:

Night of the Living Dead is on my Netflix DVD list - it'll probably be a little while until it gets to me. I haven't seen it yet.

I just watched Train to Busan. I was actually kind of bored until the last half hour or so. I prefer things that make you think more than this does. This was mostly just running and fighting zombies, and deciding whether or not to help people.

I just watched Saw for the first time. I found that much more to my liking. I quite enjoyed trying to figure things out. I liked that there was more than one thing to figure out, too, so I still had stuff to think about even though I knew exactly who was doing it and why from the moment we first met them.

Not too bad. I've been looking at a few Horrorfest films.

The Cat People

I remember as a child I was maybe bored and disappointed by this film, because I expected a Wolf Man style film, and it isn't. You don't actually see a monster. I was all about the monster makeup. Instead, you hear sounds and see shadows. I mean there is dialog too, but the non dialog parts are put together so well sound wise. I appreciated the movie more when I got older and could appreciate the style. This is a film that use black and grays as expressive colors. It is black and white. I know people who will NOT watch a movie that is not in color. I don't understand that. Well I think I do, but it seems so superficial. And remarks like THAT is why I don't do well in social situations! :(

There are movies and TV shows that can not be conveyed in anything but black and white, especially when stirring a disturbing mood.
