That's a good list - Unfortunately, I haven't seen half of them.

My top films of 2009 (in fact, top films of every year) can be found on my website...
http://sites.google.com/site/gavinbollard/my-other-interests-and-hobbies/movies/2009-movies
(in case you're interested).

In the meantime, here's my top six for 2009

1. Avatar
2. Star Trek
3. Up!
4. Terminator Salvation
5. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
6. Knowing

I had District 9 and Couple's Retreat as Notable mentions but in retrospect, District 9 is probably considerably better than Knowing.

Inglorious Basterds was awesome. As far as Tarantino films go, I liked it more than Reservoir Dogs. Star Trek was great as well.

1. Gran Torino
2. Transformers 2

Sadly those are the only movies I saw in 2009.

To make it easier, I made my list from movies that were released in 2009 rather than from all the movies I watched in 2009, because I watched way too many to attempt to make a top 10 list from them. In approximate order because I have a hard time ranking movies:

Moon
District 9
The Invention of Lying
Paranormal Activity
Gamer
Surrogates
9
Coraline
Adam
Orphan

Honourable mention goes to Antichrist for having some scenes that truly disturbed me, because that's no longer an easy task for a movie to do. Can't place it in my top 10 because I'm not sure I ever want to watch it again.

Inglorious Bastards. I hated Terminator 4 mind you I've been an Arnold fan since 94 at the age of 6. In T4 they had a very obviously fake looking CGI Arnold, there were no lasor guns like portrayed in the future scenes in the first two films, and there was no suspense. The movie was just a bunch of mind-less action, which can work in some cases, but not all the time. IMO T4 was worse than T3. In all cases Terminator without James Cameron = SUCK. Zombie Land was good and I haven't seen Avatar, but want to.

I didn't care to see Terminator 4 because Arnold wasn't in it. I did see Terminator 3, and wasn't thrilled. Terminator 1 and 2 were the best of the series. They are doing Terminator 5. But without Arnold in it, I won't see it.

Watched Inglourious Basterds last night. Definitely my pick for best film of the year.

I also really enjoyed Watchmen, Star Trek, Up, Where the Wild Things Are, The Princess and the Frog, Avatar and Up in the Air. Oh, and Crank: High Voltage.

Don't really have a worst of choice, but I thought Public Enemies was really meh.

5. Let the Right One In

I think Let the Right One In was technically a 2008 film but I still love it more than anything I've seen in 2009 (including Star Trek).
