I've only seen two movies that dealt directly with Asperger's - Mozart and the Whale and Adam.

Both had pros and cons, however I thought that Adam had the somewhat more accurate representation.

I recommend A Beautiful Mind.
Though John Nash wasn't officially Autistic, and most of the movie in fact focuses on his hallucinations due to schizophrenia,
even before those, he was quite socially-awkward and obviously possessed savant-like capabilities.

I've seen precisely two movies that explicitly contained an Autistic- Adam, a horribly-acted, terribly cliche rom-com about a young man with Aspergers, and Dear John, in which the title character's father is Autistic. He even has a meltdown in the back of a car when his son and son's girlfriend are taking him to a social situation.

The only thing wrong with it is its inaccuracies, Nash himself criticised it & my Economics Professor at university an expert in the UK on Game Theory also criticised it for its misrepresentation of Nash Equilibria.

I have mixed feelings about Adam. I thought it was a very good movie showing someone with AS. But I also think it sent the wrong message when He did not get the girl at the end. The movie is saying people with AS can't have a relationship. People with AS struggle with relationships all the time, we don't need a movie telling people that.

My interpretation is that Beth (Rose Byrne's character) let Adam go, because had begun to get too dependent on her (and essentially wanted her as a surrogate parent when he moves away). In fact, I thought the end of the movie showed him as a much more independent and confident person than he was before.

Watch Holes, I felt like the character "Zero" acted like an Aspie very well....he doesn't seem to socialise in the film until he makes friends with the protagonist "Stanley Yelnats", he's dyslexic in the film too....but the way he acts in the film reminds me of Aspergers although it never really tells you in the film why he acts the way he does, so I assume he may be Autistic.

He shows more of himself near the end of the film though...since Stanley is the only one he can ever trust.

In that case, pretty much all movies based on actual people and events are out-
movies are for entertainment, at least for me and most.

If I want to be informed, I'll do research.

I believe Pi is the movie with the best interpretation of Asperger's Syndrome, despite the main character being undiagnosed. Pi is a psychological thriller about a math theorist who is obsessed with finding a pattern in Pi that can be used to describe everything in nature.

While reading through these, I was waiting for someone to mention Pi. Love that movie.

A Serious Man definitely. I was going to mention Cube, but thinking that he was an autistic savante.

My favorite movies that have autistic characters are The Boy Who Could Fly and The Wizard.

Has anyone out there seen the movie Lucas (1986)? I swear the main character had AS.

I enjoyed MY NAME IS KHAN although I don't think it's the best representation. Sean Astin in THE LOWLIFE is good but it's very realistic and sad movie though.

A Serious Man is a great example. They obviously didn't have an Asperger's diagnosis back in the 50's, when the movie was taking place, but the lead character's brother certainly had it.

Mary and Max is another really good movie, imo. Max is an adult with AS in NYC who enters into a pen pal relationship with Mary, a young girl in Australia. It's filmed in Claymation. I also have this one on DVD.

When I first learned about the possibility of having AS myself from my therapist, this was the first movie I rented on Netflix (it was also on IMDB's Top 250 list, so I would've watched it anyways). I thought it was a really good movie with great animation. But at the same time, it helped me understand a little bit more what my therapist ment. I didn't base a self-diagnosis off of that film alone, but definitely helped me to understand what I needed to look for in order to come to a more rational conclusion.

I really liked Snow Cake - while I don't relate to the main character very much, I see some of her traits are similar to mine, and some of what she says is close to what I think before speaking. She was quite similar with some other Aspies I know, though. And the neighbours' reaction to her was great to see as well, it seemed quite accurate in that respect!
