What is your favorite disaster movie?

Mine is a tie between The Towering Inferno and the Day After Tomorrow.

Mine is a three-way tie between Twister, Contagion, and Cloverfield.

I'll go with 1936's San Francisco since I felt it had a better plot and characters than most disaster films today. Extra points for the earthquake scene and the aftermath art direction.

I wouldn't call Super 8 a disaster movie.

Batman & Robin, although I don't think it's quite the type of disaster movie you had in mind.

The Day After Tommorrow because it seems to be the most accurate scenario what could happen in the near future just not as rapidly. Also Geology is my current Major and I love Geology another favorite would be Dante's Peak because volcanoes are awesome.

I picked the Poseidon Adventure (the original) but I also liked the Airport movies from the 70's.

I picked "The Day After Tomorrow", but really, my favorite disaster movie was "Airplane!". :geek:

I love "The Day After Tomorrow". I have always wanted to see a Snowball Earth scenario.

I like deep impact just because the buildup to the end of the world is quite melancholic for a blockbuster movie

I should also like to speak out on behalf of one of the most-maligned disaster movies, "The Happening" by M. Night Shyamalan. Having suffered from both near-suicidal depression and crippling pollen allergy for much of my life, I found it a truly scary and melancholy scenario.

Even though I've seen it about 1000 times and I don't want to see it again for a long time I still think Titanic was the best movie out of all of them. I'm not that fond of Leonardo Dicaprio though, especially when he was younger.

While a very good disaster movie, Earthquake doesn't appear to be well-liked, especially in regards to the DVD release, due to it being without special features and no way to simulate the "sensurround" sound in the original theatrical release. Sensurround was never used for any other movie. Nobody seemed to be focused on the disaster aspect. From the reviews on Amazon, the most positive thing about the movie was Victoria Principal's boobs, everybody else was whining about Lorne Greene and Ava Gardner playing father and daughter despite there not being a big real-life age difference between them.

Interesting Trivia fact: I found clips of the movie on YouTube, and people did erroneously think Victoria Principal co-starred with George Kennedy in Naked Gun. (It was Priscilla Presley). Incidentally, George Kennedy did star on the final seasons of Dallas, but by then, Pam Ewing (Victoria Principal's character on Dallas) had been killed off.

And did anybody notice the cartoonish blood-splattering in one panic scene? (It was just before the scene at LAX). It did look more like Itchy and Scratchy than a 70s disaster movie in that one scene.
