"Contagion" and "Cloverfield" are both great. Haven't seen "Twister" though.

Even though it's a really crappy film, I liked 2012, at least until I realised the big ships were not in fact, to be torpedoed into space, but were in fact "Noah's Arc" type ships. Bleh.

My favourite disaster film would probably be Deep Impact. I like realistic-ish films that aren't just about the science aspect, but about how people cope with impending doom, or... How they don't cope.

The Happening was a trippy ass film, I still think about it occasionally after seeing it about 2 years ago. It was quite unsettling seeing people running themselves over with ride-able lawnmowers.

Strange Days by Kathryn Bigelow. OK so technicly it's not a dissaster movie but, it is set at the turn of the Millennium. This was made before Y2K and, captures some of the hysteria. Which is why I feel it qualifies as a disaster movie. It's also kind of Cyberpunk Noir. With a subtle love story between Ralph Fines and Angela Basset. It's one of my favorite movies of all times.

Contagion. Most other disaster movies sacrifice scientific accuracy for drama or action (Twister; Armageddon; Day After Tommarrow), but Contagion found an appropriate balance. I also liked the choice of actors- everyone seemed perfect for their role-, and the lack of typecasting made it seem all the more real. I loved it.

I did like 2012 when I first saw it. Cheesiest thing ever, but it looked cool on the big screen. And Deep Impact was a good one as well, despite the fact it makes no sense that they would only see the comet 2 years before impact. But if you can get past the technical stuff, it's a good drama.
