My three brilliant and fabulous children are all in the spectrum. My eldest is thirteen, has Asperger's and some other mood disorder issues. He's a brilliant roboticist. Middle son is 10 and loves everything to do with the ocean, especially sharks. His IQ is scary high, but he's so quiet people don't usually notice that. You know he likes you if he starts spouting off random shark facts to you. If he didn't like you he'd just not talk to you. Little guy is 8. He was non verbal until he was 5, and was dx'd with PDD-NOS. I took him in for some testing, and they through in a bunch of those Asperger Scale thingy's. He tested as not even close to being in the spectrum anymore. Now, I know there's no cure and it's probably still in there somewhere. He's one unusual little dude. He's applying to the Davidson Institute for extremely gifted kids. If he doesn't get in I hope they can at least help me find the right resources to challenge him. Calculus makes him giggle.

I'm a substitute teacher and love when I get to work with special needs kids. Maybe when my kids are older I'll go get another degree so I can teach them full time. I have a wonderful husband.

That's all about us!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I hope you guys don't mind me hanging around. Although I'm extremely not autistic (I took all those tests someone posted and WOW I came out way on the other end) I truly enjoy Aspies and other people in the spectrum. Reading your posts is already helping me figure out what's going out with my kids and we've had some good talks about social stuff etc. You guys rock!! !

YAY we rock!! :D This new member thinks we rock, lets rock this place out. :D

Oh yes, Welcome To Wrongplanet Kiley. :king:

I have a couple of questions actually?

- Is there any teachers that you work with have aspergers?
- What is the best and the worst bit about your experience?

I'm just pretty curious.

I don't know any teachers with Aspergers. There may be some. We have teachers with experience working with people with Aspergers. Some of them have family members with Aspergers or other ASD's, including myself.

I don't know if this is the kind of answer you wanted to the second question, but the best thing for me would be the unique ideas. We have the BEST conversations about all sorts of things, mostly sciency. I just love that Asperger's people, and people with ASDs see the world differently and come up with such great ideas. The worst thing for me personally is living with the disorganization and temper tantrums. Maybe that's more the ADHD in my kids than the autism, but it's really hard. They are terrible about helping around the house but create a lot more work than average. The tantrums are hard because I hate to see them upset and can't always figure out how to help them out of it. Most of the time I think I'm the luckiest mommy in the world to have three such amazing kids.
