best way to navigate the discussion forums?

Hi there I'm new. What's the best approach - go for the most recent threads first, or look up threads of particular interest to me even if they're really old? What do you do?

Well, some people frown upon bumping really old threads, so I don't post on them but I do sometimes like to look at them.
I think, if you want to be involved, I would comment on the newest threads that relate to you.
