"View first unread post" just skips to top of page

In threads you have already commented in but other people have commented since, there is an arrow pointing to a green page just before the thread name, if you hover the cursor over it it says "view first unread post" but when you click on it it just takes you to the top of the page where the first unread post is, rather than actually scrolling to the first unread post. Is it supposed to be doing this? It would be useful if it did scroll to the right post.

Now it's saying there's new posts when there aren't and sometimes (even when there are new posts) it just takes you to page 1. Have I broken it?
