And in classic AS style, we get all worked up over something that, ultimately, works out for the best anyhow.

Glad to hear the good news.

They also like to force everybody to give each other backrubs. Isn't that like telling everybody to sexually harass others and in turn be harassesd?

Corporations have way to much authority in this backwards country.[/quote]

that's just not right; both points of; sleeping in a strange room with a stranger, and also, giving back rubs (YUK) to coworkers, if you ask me my opinion, is asking for potential lawsuits; meaning; if there is some kind of sexual infringement on part of employees sharing a room (and that can leave open a lot of "interpetations" , because, let's face it, if youre a sharing a sleeping room with someone, everyone has their own nite time quirks and habits, which someone else might take offense at, and massaging coworkers??? please, i'm really surpriseed no one has yet sued them about this practice; it's totally outrageous!

yikes!! !

It is not the going that I disputing. It is some of the actual activities. I honestly don't think it is legal for them to require me to stand in a circle and be massaged by a stranger while in turn giving another stranger a massage. Would it be legal for them to tell me that I have to allow somebody to grab my balls and jiggle them about or I'm fired? I don't see the difference. It is inappropriate touching in either case.

i agree with you 100%. massage is intimate touch; i dont care if its done by a professional or not; it's intimate touching of one's body. it's totally unprofessional and inappropriate to include this in "employee training" tsk tsk sounds like the employer has some "personal space violation" issues... awkward...

I've worked in corporate environments before, and been to a lot of these dumb team building sessions. I've never heard of anything involving backrubs before. Sounds fishy to me, or at least that someone in charge is pretty clueless.

I had a similar experience with a 2-week leadership course at the taxpayers' expense. There were 40 of us students. They wanted us to bond: I don't do bonding. I had no idea that people left the room during breaks to go to the drinks counter. I had my pitcher of water and afternoon snack, so I was OK. One instructor had us do a group shoulder massage in line. At my rear partner's first touch, I felt an electric shock and yelled, "Stop!"

The utter irony of this is that I lacked a prerequisite: empathy. So, I could not assimilate the material. Add to that my social cluelessness and that made for a wonderful time. I should have gone to Hawaii with my wife. At the time, I had no idea that I had an ASD. I was just the odd, occasionally rude, always clueless eccentric.

I guess that worked out with little effort on your part, after all.

I was going to suggest asking around to find out to what degree the others would be looking forward to the whole thing - I have a feeling that you aren't the only one who is skeptical about this, and who might be actively resistant. It would be worth the pain and effort of organizing the resistance, just to be able to get as many of the team as possible to get together and tell the company "hell, no! we're not interested!" Now, THAT would have been an effective team-building exercise....
