Ok, so last Tuesday I had a meeting with someone from AutismNZ. The meeting was basically to see what I needed help with and what they could do to support me.

The lady [Natasha], asked me what my interests were. I told her and one of my answers was animals. I also would like to work with animals. Natasha said that she would contact an employment agency and see if they would be able to help me find work in the field of animal care.

I have volunteered at a cattery before when I was 12 years old. I really enjoyed it until two girls who were 19 years old who worked there started makeing me do their work.
I have also volunteered at a pet store...mainly cleaning cages.

I would like a job which doesn't involve too much interaction with others, such as customers, but mainly focuses on the animals.

Does anyone work with animals? If so, what do you do and how enjoyable is it?

my stepdaughter works at a vet as a 'Kennel Tech' - this is a fancy way of saying 'stable hand', but it pays the bills for her...;)

I once worked at a piggery, my main role was looking after the new born piglets. I loved my job. You didn't have to deal directly with many people and there were many opportunities to stop and talk to the pigs. And you weren't considered weird for doing so because most others did too. Pigs have their own personality and looks, and they are identifiable quite easily once you work with them enough and know their characteristics.

The job isn't all fun and games, the work is hard at times, and you must be prepared for getting dirty, and be able to handle the vast amount of piglets that die. Also must be able to give needles to pigs.

I work with horses. Mostly I just clean stalls, but it varies from day to day. I like it, I know what to do, so I rarely get any instructions, and there's not much interaction with people.
If you want to try, everyone starts with cleaning stalls.
You didn't say how old you are though, often you have to be 18 to work in a barn, horses can be dangerous sometimes.
I've also worked for a vet, but it was mostly cleaning cages and walking dogs. I didn't really care for it.

I'd also like to work with animals. :albino: :cat: :pig:

I'm 16...so working in a barn will not be an option then. I want to volunteer for the SPCA, but you have to be 18 for that aswell. So...two years to wait, not much really.

I'm jealous. Really.
I get good grades in school and my parents are setting me up for a professional, well-paid job, but all I want to do is muck out stables.

Good luck! Working with animals sounds like a great idea. I think working to help cats would be fun.

Working as an animal caregiver in a kennel can be wonderful, if you like walking dogs, feeding them, and don't mind cleaning up their poos sometimes. You could try checking with a few kennels.
If you are like me you will wish you could take all the doggies home with you though.

Ever since I was young I wanted to work with wolves....I have always liked them for some reason.

But in College I am studying Economics and Accounting which has nothing to do with wolves ><.

I also had a thing with wolves, and dogs as a consequence (or was it the other way round? Not sure ;) ). They're fascinating.
