:P
We are a family in Ann Arbor, MI who has just learned our son is AS. He is seventeen. We are in the just beginnings of what does this mean? To us he will always be who he is, we always thought he was particular but so is some kin in our family. I always thought it was a cultural thing in our family, quiet, eccentric, smart types. Any insight of the most will be welcomed.

I am very pleased you have this website and have the needed spirit to network all aspies. We want the most happy future for our son and need all the right tools. First researching Asperger Syndrome can be positive and negative with the information out there. I will be considering wrongplanet the first hand tool for resource.

Hello v70dumpling!

Welcome to WrongPlanet! I moved your introduction to the Parent's Discussion group to get a random sampling of folks that have lived through and survived very well your same issue.

WP is glad to be here, and hope you will find your own bright way with the support of us all.

Merle

Welcome!

My son was diagnosed when he was 7, but we have quite a few here who were diagnosed much later. Hopefully it wasn't a rough road up to now, that he hasn't had too many negative effects from being understood by most of the world.

AS does tend to run in families, so it isn't surprising to here there are traits he shares with other relatives. Leading theories believe it is genetic, but also from a collection of genes, so it is also possible for people to have some AS traits, but not "be" AS (that would be me :) ).
