Quote:
Outside of Europe, however, many societies developed very different sexual values. When, after centuries of isolation, Christian explorers finally discovered such societies, they were amazed and incredulous. For example, when Captain Cook came to Tahiti he was greatly surprised to find that the Tahitians had sexual intercourse in public and "gratified every appetite and passion before witnesses". Thus, he reported in his Account of a Voyage Around the World (1769):

“A young man, nearly six feet high, performed the rites of Venus with a little girl about 11 or 12 years of age, before several of our people and a great number of natives, without the least sense of its being indecent or improper, but, as appeared, in perfect conformity to the custom of the place. Among the spectators were several women of superior rank who . . . gave instructions to the girl how to perform her part, which, young as she was, she did not seem much to stand in need of.”

In spite of his consternation, however, Captain Cook apparently kept his composure and did not try to stop the performance.

How did they know she was 11 or 12?Did they ask? What if she was just short and girlish looking? And the English were always complaing that other cultures behaved improperly. One of the sailors most likely went back on ship and buggered a cabin boy.Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, didn't you just post about some books on naval"traditions"?

Quote:
Sex was seen as being positive and pleasurable, and although many cultural precepts existed concerning nonsexual aspects of life, the attitude toward sex was comparatively open and permissive. Sexual needs and desires were seen as being as basic as the need to eat, and the young were instructed in matters of sex. Adults attended physically to the sexual development of the young, including the preparation of their genitals. These sexual interactions between adults and the young, from the society’s perspective, were seen as benefiting the young individual rather than as gratifying the adult. The sexual desire of an adult for a nonadult, heterosexual or homosexual, was accepted, and the regular erotic preference by an adult for a young individual probably was viewed more as being unusual than as being intrinsically bad.

I personally find it disgusting that people discriminate against paedophilia and it makes me sick hearing about massive online communities saying that we should bring back the death sentence exclusively for them or that we should do animal testing on them. It's no different than extreme homophobia, niether gays or paedophiles have a choice in who their attracted to.

However in regards to the minority of paedophiles that do actually abuse people, only the ones with serious mental illnesses or the
handfull that are actually led on by a teenager will fail to release the harm that they're doing. The majority of abusers know full well the extent of harm they're doing, don't care, and don't bother to try to work against their urgers. These people deserve all the hate they get.

Don't confuse child predators with pedophilia. Those two are not the same.

Are there laws against pedophilia?

There are (and certainly should be) laws against sex with children and moloesting.

But even if the government wanted to get into your head it couldnt.

There are no laws against any kind of lust -that I am aware of.

You can lust for chrystal meth all that you want, but as long as you dont possess it or use it you're not breaking any law.

...
Well... there are laws against kiddy porn ( trading and possessing it). Maybe that counts.
