A work by philosopher voltaire, this story is fantastic, especially on ethics.namely, it attacks leibniz' s view on optimism, slowly but surely hes "cured" of his o ptimism.his teacher pangloss however, always everything is for the best he assumes (the dangers of not using empirical evidence.) As he puts in use through faulty cause and effect.the book urges us to "cultivate our own mind." This book 's prejudice was us, ironically.......

I also feel it has merit as the story has helped me with my own aspergers.candide is extemly naive in the beginning. I encourage you to read it

Read it in high school, in French class. I agree, it's a great book! What fascinated me about it was how universal it was, despite being written like 300 years ago. Some things never change.

I read the original French version too. An interesting, but somewhat pessimistic book.

Leonard Bernstein adapted Voltaire's Candide into an operetta. There was a partially staged version with the New York Philharmonic that is on youtube:
