Lol, this really isn't funny at all, but I just find the idiocy of Ron Shimabuku so freaking hilarious. I also find it funny when the female reporter politely questions his remarks and the male reporter backs up plays the diplomat and backs up the misogynistic remarks. It is just so disgusting and hilarious all at once. I mean how can this buy so incredibly stupid to say such an insensitive thing on air?
What do you think of this?
Eh, it's a bit of cheap shot but Danica is pretty well known for her 'surly' demeanor. I don't even follow racing and know this just from watching Sportscenter over the years. The last guy was right, if she doesn't want people to attach the word sexy to her then maybe she should stop doing half naked commercials for GoDaddy.
See that's why I am such a critic of the feminist movement. They see being mean-spirited as being a plus when women are doing it, but as evil and oppressive when men are. They are actually trapped in the patriarchal mindset they despise so much in thinking that being aggressive and unforgiving equals being strong.
I don't know, lots of male sports stars as well as female sports stars pose for playboy and such. I mean, David Beckham for one.
I get that it's a little hypocritical for her to pose and then get mad when being called "sexy" but I just guess the feeling that when someone tells you to back off you should just back off. If David Beckham told people to back off in a heartfelt way when women call him sexy I would expect people to respect his wishes. I mean, I realize this argument kind of sounds absurd in our modern day society, but just think about it.
I mean, the point is, that the newscaster made a fool of himself. Just look at him. He just acts like a fool. He is just breathing misogyny, it's not what he is saying, it is the way he is saying it. Like, how can he not realize how his comments will be interpreted by your average person?

I don't know how much you follow sports but the attention Danica gets doesn't match up with her actual abilities. The reason anybody even knows who she is, is because of her gender and her looks. The difference between David Beckham or Tom Brady, who certainly get described as sexy too, is that they actually have ability to warrant the attention they get. Danica is essentially the not as good looking Anna Kournikova of auto racing and has a less than pleasant personality.

Maybe she really IS a b1tch. Why should she be immune from being called names just because she's an attractive woman?

Journalism should have a modicum of integrity and professionalism... oh wait, we're talking about Fox News. Nevermind

i am a feminist and i do not think it as a good thing to be mean-spiritied (nor do any of my feminist friends). you're making things up again instead of actually asking feminists what they think.

female beauty is greatly prized, and studies have shown that we attribute (unearned) positive characteristics to attractive females by default. therefore if a female is noticeably unkind, unpleasant, or unintelligent, it runs counter to what people implicitly believe about those women. it is jarring to realise that a beautiful woman is really no different from any other individual, and she is just as likely to have negative personality characteristics as any other person.
so i think people are jarred by a beautiful woman who is unpleasant compared to an unattractive woman with the same characteristics.
but really, why does it matter if she is unpleasant or not? are any reporters talking about male racecar drivers and calling them assholes?

I think that Danica's point about "Can't you refer to a female athelete as something other than sexy" was about wanting to be appreciated for her ability as a driver and not her body. When she's talking to reporters about racing, I think that's appropriate. If she was talking about her performance in a Go Daddy commercial, I'm sure she would appreciate being referred to as sexy, since that's what she's trying to achieve there. When she's talking about racing, "smart" or "skilled" or "competitive" would be more appropriate comments. I also think that the problem with the sportscaster's comment is that if she was a guy athelete, and he said he didn't like the way someone commented about him because it had nothing to do with his athletic performance, he wouldn't be called a d*** for it.
