So whats good about this society?
Seriously? I try and observe the good things about it, that's supposed to motivate an individual to go out there and give it there all right? Well what about the growing number of individuals who see nothing appealing about the disgusting ways in which humans are encouraged to live their lives. Not to mention to me the statistics that clam the U.S has one of the highest rates of mental illness, point to this society being unhealthy rather than individuals needing fixing to better conform to it.

I can't disagree with any of that. We are less self-determining that we're led to believe in our modern world. And our self-determination is shrinking. There was a time, for instance, when I didn't have to go through any in-depth search to get on an airplane and fly somewhere, though it was always somewhat costly to travel. The cost of living is higher than when I was young, relative to average income. Back then a person could move out on their own more easily, while today young people (NTs included) are having to live at home longer or in group situations that aren't always comfortable, even less so for someone with social issues. But I also had to do that (live in an uncomfortable group situation) along with my spouse and several housemates during the recession of the 90s. We live in a much less prosperous world than my parents did as adults (though I have it better than they did as children), for the average individual.
Unfortunately I don't see things getting better anytime soon, but if we do nothing they never will. So it's important not to give up.
All I can suggest is keep looking for the good things. There are some there. And keep trying to be the change you want to see. (Gandhi's best advice, IMO - "Be the change you want to see in the world.") But don't expect that to fix everything. Expect it to fix you a little, and for that to provide an infinitesimal change in the wave of society and hopefully an example for others.

Disgusting is subjective.

Or just don't be in a society, I suppose out of those though I'd have to pick trying to change it though that's much easier said than done obviously and probably easier to fail at than succeed at.

That is rather subjective....not exactly a fact since not everyone is happier or better off, not to mention some people define happier and better off differently than others.

You might find this interesting, though it doesn't do you much good if you're not living in Denmark: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43287918/ns ... ions-list/

I meant more that the average generic happiness and wellness of the world population is higher now than it has been in any era in the past. I don't think anyone would honestly prefer to go back to Victorian or Medieval standards of living.

Well we can't exactly bring back people living in the past and ask them to rate their average happiness and then compare it to the average happiness of today...so there is really no proof of general happiness being higher. Also though those are only two small segments of history.

Time for a bit of Churchill I think;
"democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
Yes it does suck rather a lot but compared to Afghanistan, North Korea or Somalia it is a paradise on earth so cheer up.

This isn't a democracy it's a republic.....and I was referring to society as a whole not our government system, though I am not to happy with the federal government either. That's not to say there aren't worse places but that doesn't make this a good or healthy society, just a bit better then some worse places.

Churchill was the s**t. No form of government will ever be perfect, but I trust one where the people have the power much more than where 1 person has the power.
