David Cameron wants to take your porn away
If you live in the UK, the PM is planning to implement a draconian new blocking system similar to what they have in China, for all UK broadband subscribers, in the name of protecting children from porn. Of course there's no credible evidence of this being a problem in the first place, but Dave is determined to fix it by implementing the kind of blocks you had on school computers, in your own home.
Do you sit there and take it, or what?
The way I see it is a further subcontracting of parenting. It is also reflects the people don't take responsibility for themselves or their offspring. They are poorly informed too, even in this very technological world.
I'm from this technical field, so I know it won't work.
The heuristics won't even be good enough so innocent businesses, and individuals will get blocked, who have nothing to do with pornography.
Anything seriously illegal is on P2P, and they won't be able to stop that.
One thing I will say is, there is an assumption that young children need a phone with an internet connection, etc. This couldn't be further from the truth. They don't need these thing, and they don't need to be on social media, etc. In fact adult don't need to be on social media.
A little bit of bottle, goes a long way. Last time I checked it isn't these young children that are paying the bills.
Apparently the idea is to automatically block adult content from all homes unless you opt out of this blocking. So people can still opt out. The problem then lies in there being a database somewhere of all people who have opted out of blocking porn, which is really no ones business.
I don't think this will work because parental controls don't do a very good job of blocking porn anyway.

Not necessarily P2P, but other areas of the 'dark web' (that never touch Google) are there too.
And as for the rest of your post - I agree.
A paedophile could easily get their rocks off simply through searching for photos on photo sharing sites or YouTube if they wish. They don't need to go and look for proper child pornography.
Frankly, this is all farcical. I was reading an article on this some time back (about Google and all the crap they have to remove from YouTube) and they're working their guts out at this and have full control of the situation from their end.

or a city park or school playground... This could have unintended consequences.
That's far too risky.
Parents openly share all the material of children quite legally that many paedos could want.
I'm more worried about the desire now from many quarters to ban rape fantasy porn.

according to the BBC news, you will be still able to access pornography, but you will have to 'opt into it' by specifically informing your internet or telephone line provider.
Either way I'm not happy about it, it is a point of principle.
On the other hand, if it serves to expedite his eviction from number 10 and chequers, then perhaps we should smile a little.

Never mind that we've already had a de-facto Internet censor in this country for many years anyway, the IWF. Which is, of course, not accountable to the public.
The other lot will propose the exact same thing in the blink of an eye.
It doesn't really matter which of the big three parties you vote for. They all sing from the same hymn sheet.

quite aside from their accountability [or lack of] I have tried to scour their website for a defintion of 'criminally obscene' adult content. Surprise surprise, I can't find one. Seems to be that moral crusaders apply their standards arbitrarilly. as, how and when they see fit.
