Not on its own, no. But you'd never see a show like that today because the consensus now is that we're warming up. The fact that a show like that could be made 25 years ago indicates that the prevailing attitude towards climate back then was in the opposite direction than it is now.

Still, there is one thing that some people miss... the overall global climate of the past 10,000 years or so is just an interglacial between the last Ice Age and the next one. And previous interglacials lasted between 8,000 and 12,000 years...

Some phenomenon would have to trigger it, though. For example, if the mass of ice that covers Greenland were to begin melting away, yes, it is plausible that the resulting desalinization of the water in that area of the atlantic could inhibit if not outright halt the heat transfer system that runs through it, thus causing a reversal of the warming trend. Such an event would directly act upon climatic trends worldwide. What you're saying is not necessarily untrue, Xenon, but such a shift in direction would not happen on its own. Furthermore, the event or chain of events that causes the next trend shift could have consequences just as troublesome as the warming trend now in progress, QED. Whatever is happening with this planet, we need to prepare for it. We may even have to take matters into our own hands more frequently than the environmental protection hippies would like.

On a side note, perhaps the ice caps act as a sort of climatic buffer viz melts acting upon the heat transfer system. Has anyone given much thought to this notion?

Long term oscillations in the dynamically stable behaviour of the Sun, and cycles intrinsic to the Earth. We haven't been here long enough to understand them.

I just heard this the other day, but apparently according to some astrologists Mars is warming.

I thought it was curious. There certainly is no industry in Mars (or trees for that matter).

I would have no problem if both California and the East coast were flooded. Though loosing Washington and Oregon would be rather unfortunate.
