In fact, a false one. Isn't Rushdie's Satanic Verses kind of hinting at that idea?

WHY do some people take prophets so seriously????

Because of circular reasoning: "holy" book says it is the word of God, because it says so on page x.

Some people want to tell, others want to be told. Some people want knowledge or experiences that transcend normal mortal stuff. Combine the desire for transcendent things with wanting to be told and you create a market for any charismatic person who wants to tell.

St Paul isn't so much a prophet.

Here are some of the old Testament Prophets:

Here are some of those in Islam:

Notice how many of them overlap? Judaism and Islam are strongly linked and Islam is pretty much influenced by it. They are incredibly similar.

They are not exactly 'linked'.....five hundred years after Jesus, a Jewish rabbi who was or claimed to be the Messiah, an Arab named Mohammad claimed that Jesus was only a prophet, and that HIS (Mohammad's) message was more dependable.

Many or most Jews doubted Jesus' claims to divinity, and after five hundred years of one religion claiming their Messiah, their prophets, and adopting their holy book as part of their Bible, here was another group coming along, claiming that both the Jews and Christians had mis-translated scriptures, and that THEIR book (Q'uran) was correct.

Christianity came from Judaism, being a religion that follows the Jewish Messiah.

Islam claims to be following revelations given to a prophet who came after the Messiah, and that the Q'uran, not the Bible or the Torah, is the Word of God.

Many legendary Jews are prophets in Islam, like Noah, Enoch and Jesus.

Whether Jesus was the Messiah is a personal choice or decision.

He said of Himself that He was.

Five hundred years after His ministry, an Arab stated that he was told by a vision that Jesus was only a prophet, and that Mohammad was greater than Jesus.

In the days of the Old Testament, a prophet was always Jewish, and Jesus' bloodline is traced back to King David.

Though the Q'uran states that it it is God's word and is more dependable than the Bible, the two books do not teach the same things.
