Here is why you should embrace the inevitable apathy:

1) Lip service on China's technocracy (under guise of "economy")
2) Overly-humanist opening ceremony
3) Trust fund athletes who are almost entirely irrelevant to the Western world
4) It will be on 24/7, so get a (sigh) book

Here is why it is watchable:

1) They are physically attractive, mostly easy on the eyes, but not too entertaining
2) Basically expecting the same thing that happened in Moscow

I hate the way the chinese govrnment uprooted tons of people just so they could build skyscrapers with nothing in them to make it look like a super cyber city, but its a sham, the real riches of china arent in scyscrapers but in its people and its history and culture.

Err...it is a Communist country. The people have NO right to property. You can get kicked off "your" land for any reason.

Ah I don't think I ever really gave the olympics to many thoughts anyway.
Just individual sports such as Taekwondo and Fencing. And anything involving possible bodily harm.
Opening ceremony?
Only if I'm really bored. (Most likely if they show it around midnight.)
Anything else? Probably not. There are better things to do around here.

I couldn't really care for anything politics. It's all bullshit to me. :D

I've been ready to not care since 2001 when they were awarded the games...the final nail in the coffin of the IOC's "credibility" and the long-since-dead Olympic ideals.

Yep. I'm busy not caring at this moment. Never have gotten much into sports, especially the olympics, golf (is that a sport?) and the tour de france.

I've been busy not caring since the day I was born, and maybe will continue till the day I die.

China is Communist in name only. Now days it's basically a mix of Fascism and good old-fashioned Confucian paternalism.

Fascism means they will take anyone's money despite nationalistic enemies, and paternalism means the average Ming doesn't see any of it.

At least in our American Leagues the politics and penalties are things people can relate to (like DUI), except maybe the animal bashing thing.

I am ready to forget about Beijing and look forward to the London Games in 2012. My dream is to meet Roger Bannister.
