To be honest, I don't think most people even give a s**t about it. I mean if you polled 100 people asking them if they had a problem with atheists 99 would look at you like you were stupid before replying "who cares?"

On the other hand, if you stick yourself out there as a big flaming red target, someone will pick up a rock to accommodate you.

not according to the polls that have been carried out so far.

people could have easily said they don't care if their kid marries an atheist but most said they'd be disappointed.

when people don't care, they say they don't care; they don't say they don't trust.

Well, think about it. If you come from a religious family why would you feel proud that your child is marrying an atheist knowing that the grandchildren will more than likely not receive a religious upbringing? I would be disappointed too if my spouse was an atheist.

Yes - if such a law is needed. Freedom of religion should be guaranteed to all citizens of the US.

How come atheists will call Atheism a religion when they want benefits, but say it's not a religion in other arguments? Also, skafather's copy-paste says that atheists have been strong proponents of "freedom of religion", but rather they promote their own version which is better called,
"freedom from religion."

First Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion [such as the Church of England was], or prohibiting the free exercise thereof [such as England had done to the "heretic" Churches];..."

it's easy to make such statements when you're safe. christians face no persecution so of course you can make such idiotic claims from your ivory tower.

Yes, most would say they do not care because that's the PC thing to do. Stick them in a voting booth where they can say what they truly think and you will get much different results. US politicians are so worried about pleasing the largest group of people to get elected; they would never admit to being an atheist even if they really were.

On this, I wholeheartedly agree.

In other words, you're taking the refuge of the ten-year-old when someone points out his ideas aren't pure genius.

Look, I'm just being contrary. It's apparent you and most people here
disapprove of freedom of speech. Or only approve of it when people
say things you want to hear.

did i try to get you banned or something?

disagreeing with you (even strongly disagreeing) is not denying your freedom of speech.

We can still do without the verbal abuse and whatnot. I don't care if atheists are in office or not,
but I do care that I should be able to present a contrary opinion without getting a bunch of malicious and seething hateful words thrown at me.

when you're intentionally misrepresenting history to fit your own purposes, expect a harsh response. especially when it effects me directly/personally like this which is why i later said i was getting out of this thread because i realized it then that guy went on and made fun of me for it.
