Oh for goodness sake!! Can anyone say they are surprised?

No matter how domesticated an animal might be, they are still "wild in nature" and respond to the same stimuli as they would in the wild.

I boycotted Seaworld years ago because I could not be sure that they were legitimately gaining animals through the correct and ethical channels.......If this is a conspiracy theory, I am a believer.......

As this poor whale has no chance of surviving in the wild, put it to pasture in a sanctuary, where it can live the rest of its life in relative peace and quiet. If they put this animal down, I will lose my mind over the stupidity :x

If I was a killer whale I would have bitten her on the waist myself.........God, don't get me started

Animals as intelligent and sensitive as the dolphin family and elephants have no business being held captive for our entertainment. It's no surprise when they go beserk on their trainers. Can you imagine how intense it must be for an orca to listen to the sounds of the audience?

Good for the whale. I can hardly have sympathy for showmen such as this woman, who is part of a despicable culture of cruelty by ignorance.

I also object to the article repeatedly using the phrase "killer whale," a highly unscientific and emotionally charged phrasing, instead of the well-known "orca."

I think that killer whales or orcas deserve to be in the wild and not in some small tank doing tricks for people.

HELLO animal lover! :)
I haven't boycotted Sea World, but I don't like them being put in some small tank for the public to watch them do tricks and all. Seals, sea lions, killer whales, dolphins, they all deserve to be in the wild.

I never was interested in watching sea lions, seals, dolphins, whales, do tricks for the public.

It's never made much sense to me, it seems a bit demeaning to make an animal do tricks that they wouldn't do unless they are rewarded to do them. I don't know whether orcas naturally enjoy whatever it is they make them do. :?

Orca-strating in the wild topic

Instead of marine parks and trained animal acts, there should only be boat tours (eco-tourism), which is better for the economy and the environment. Like a live Canadian or National Geographic Special. :)

Animal sanctuaries mentioned by Michhsta are a good option for release of the Wild Orcas. Maybe there could form their own pods, because of the history of failure to reintegrate formerly captive orcas back to the ocean (Keiko).

A scene from Free Willy comes to mind of Willy freaking out during his first show at SeaWorld because of the sounds of the audience, basically having his equivalent to our meltdowns. He was going nuts, banging himself against the underwater walls of the aquarium, obviously scaring the crap out of the people down there.

Agreed.

Even as a child, I could never understand why it was ok to keep them in such small space surrounded by screaming people.

I have the same problem with animals in zoos.
