At least they are not as bad as the logo.

In the future, we're all going to have just one eye.

Ah, a perfect excuse for some payback:

Those creatures represent the cheap and cheerful approach to an Olympic mascot without the cheerful.

They certainly seem to have a stiff upper lip.

Did the mascots cost 15 million pounds to create? What is wrong in using a Austin FX3/4 taxicab and a red RouteMaster Double-Decker Bus.
That represents London.

Wenlock is named after Much Wenlock which hosted the games which Baron Pierre de Coubertin got the inspiration from to start the modern Olympic Games. Mandeville is named after Stoke Mandeville Hospital where a sports competition was held for war veterans with spinal injuries. Those games were the forerunner to the Paralympic games so the names for the mascots are very appropriate because there is a bit of Olympic and Paralympic history behind them.

I'm glad someone recognizes the history that is inherent in the mascots' names.

Beyond their names, though, the mascots follow in a long line of lacklustre predecessors. But it's all about merchandise sales, and from that perspective, they will doubtless do well.

(Though I still think that Quatchi could take 'em!)

Thundaeagle, i doubt anyone complained about their names, it's their appearance that seems to bother.

two columns of freemasonry - summoning of spirits
one eye - all seeing eye / satanic emblem
is that a pyramid on one head? pyramid on a column?

classic illuminati symbolism! :)

apparently one of them hasnt gotten the knack of walking yet (not surprisingly) so itll be fun to see how they fare in the opening ceremony.

These mascots get worse every single Olympiad!

Can we get back to normal single animal mascots?

Just put them both together, and than you have one mascot, with two eyes.
