The Mexican mob makes billions off of American crack addicts by supplying them with a chemical that is extracted from plants grown thousands of miles from the USA in Peru.
A chemical from a plant- alters the mind of a human enough to turn that person into a addict. The chemical comandeers the person's behavior to the point that the person will live for that chemical.
The addict in turn steals enough money to supply the drug trade which ultimatle gives incentive for Peruvian peasants to devote more and more acreage to illeage coca farming.
Look at it from the plant's point of view- the plant has stumbled upon a chemical that turns one group of humans into addicted "zombies". These zombies do the plants bidding by spending enough money to force other humans to become greedy ruthless criminals bent on supplying the first group of humans with the extract of the plant- which results in you (the plant) getting pampered protected and getting more land devoted to you and your progeny!
At least Corn has to actually work hard to do something useful for humans like create enough starchy seeds to feed people.
Coca just makes a minute molecule that comandeers the brains of humans!

So - this kind of parasitism isnt just science fiction in the human race.
