Scary, but not unexpected. The hate mongers on the right exploit the economic and social fears of hard hit regions, such as the former East Germany. Much like white nationalists in this country have been taking advantage of fear of illegal immigration in the Southwest.
The only hope for the people of Germany and America is to learn from the past, face the uncertain future with courage, and not to fall for the making of scapegoats of unpopular minorities.

Many Germans have a genetically imprinted urge to load up people they do not like into box cars. That urge (fortunately) is under control these days. May it remain so for a good long time.

As Ian Flemming pointed out, give a German a piece of coal and he will instinctively make analine dye.

I highly doubt if that genetically imprinted urge exists it would only apply to people of German decent.

From what I've noticed in Germany, there is a lot of taboo. A lot of regional museums about general history start around 700 end in the 1870s. Displaying symbols associated with the 1933-1945 period is illegal, and they've banned or censored video games because they involved a swastika. It's completely unacceptable, even now, to talk about that. Saying you're proud of your heritage, according to a German I know, means you'll be branded a racist or even a fascist. Even the most hardened German fascists seem to avoid displaying any symbolism close to that, because they can be detained for doing so.

Meanwhile, Germany is subject to a lot of the problems we're subject to. They also have large amounts of people moving in with little perspective of education or employment, forming a counter culture. For decades, it wasn't possible to criticise the 'multicultural' (read: monocultural with several counter cultures) society there, a taboo finally opened up recently. In face of that, especially under economic stress and uncertainty, right-wing parties benefit a lot.

And communists aren't notorious for exploiting hard hit regions all over the world?
I swear, the nucleus of some people’s existence seems to be hatred of the right….

Its interesting Germany gets all the blame for the common jew hatred even in the U.S that was going on. I mean once I was watching some old movie from that period or maybe a little after. It was about some Jewish dude and him and his girlfriend wanted to get married at some hotel and they where not allowed because he was 'jewish' so it wasn't just in Germany. The Nazis just happened to use this to unite people against a common enemy using this already existing hate. One should not be ashamed of German decent just because National Socialism happened to spring up in Germany. Being German does not make one a Nazi.

So I can understand some of the reasoning behind the censorship, but on the other hand encouraging people to be ashamed of their ethnicity because some people of their ethnicity did some horrible things seems a bit much.

Those wouldn't be actual communists regardless of what they call themselves...because exploiting people is pretty much the opposite of what communism is supposed to be.

You know, if the thread had been about communists taking advantage of social and economic upheaval, I would have commented on that. But the fact is, the article in the OP had nothing to do with the far left, but the far right. Ergo, I commented on the far right.
I have to wonder, do you have your panties in a permanent state of a bunch?

Regardless of their claimed intent, in practice they exploit the hell out of their subjects.

My point isn't so much what the thread is about but your overzealous tendency to take shots at the right at every opportunity as if the left is above reproach.
Historically, in the past 100 years the left has killed and messed up more people than the right has by millions.....
And, no, my "panties" are rarely if ever in a bunch. I can't say that about you and your cronies, though. Just look at the leftist hysterics about each and every republican presidential candidate that has come into the limelight. That's just one example.......
