Technically the SPLC provides legal protection for vulnerable minority groups who are victims of hate crime. They also track the activities of groups who espouse white extremism. Membership of groups such as the KKK or Aryan nation (or the like) require new members to demonstrate their allegiance by committing a fairly serious criminal act against a minority group. Thus much like outlaw bikie gangs membership entails the member has committed a criminal act and therefore (by default) is a criminal.

The irony is these groups commit a significant proportion of crimes against innocent white people.
