Just as an aside... Czechs think that Americans (including Czech Americans) are savage because of the ammount of violence that goes on. Basically they think that all Czech expat's who live in the U.S. should come back due to the present state of U.S. society. I find myself agreein more and more with that assessment.

Well it usually depends on whether you live in the inner cities. I personally have never witnessed a serious act of violence against anyone in this country in person.

I, unfortunately, worked at a place where there was a shooting in the parking lot (while I was there). And ghettos in Salt Lake City are supposed to be tame by most standards.

We were here before the United States, and have learned a few simple things. In New Orleans, we have a very high murder rate, often highest in the nation. We favor it.

The failure I see here is arresting the shooter. What a waste. If just left alone, he and a half dozen like him would be dead in a year at no cost. We lose 400 a year that we find the bodies, and maybe three times that if you count the missing. Finding bodies is important, quickly, later when they are released if claimed, they are missing corneas, livers, hearts, large pieces of skin, sections of bone, marrow, we call it due process.

No court costs, prison costs, and we get to keep the good chunks.

Some things you cannot change, only manage. About one out of a thousand in any year, maybe three. We could find all the murders, and for one to three billion dollars a year send them to prison for life, for killing people costs more. Getting them off the streets would make it safe for other street trash to rise, it is endless. It is a self solving problem. The spare parts go to the same racial group from which they came.

If they cross the line and kill outside their neighborhood, tourists, festival goers, store clerks, they are often tracked, and found dead. Reprisals are swift and sure. Some are annoying, they show up at the DAs office with their mother and a lawyer, and plead guilty. They cost $1,000,000 and do nothing other than provide employment for prison guards.

Other people from the same neighborhoods go to college, we do have a tuition plan, make Bs, you get a free ride as far as you can go. It is the same money that would go to a prison system.

We are a backward people, perhaps you should try it.

No idea on that one. If you were a citizen and had to give up citizenship (as many defectors did under Communism) or were born to someone like that, their repatriation laws are pretty liberal. Dunno about others.

It just seems like if a person is going to be given the risks of being an adult, while a minor, should they not also be given the privileges of an adult, while a minor? We say minors are not competent to vote, yet we say they are competent to be held responsible for their actions? To me that's illogical.

He should be executed as he is very harmful to everyone. A child like that doesn't deserve a chance at life. Not any odd innocent 14 year old. Keep him alive for 4 years in prison, then judge whether or not he should die upon his 18th birthday. If he feels remorse, give him another 10. If he doesn't, execute him. Not only would such a corrupted kid's life be short and painful anyway, but it would be for everyone's good that the kid is removed from society. Minor or not, that kid is a monster, and must pay for his actions. Of course he knew what he was doing. The evil kid killed a seemingly innocent boy 1 year younger than him, over graffiti.

They should bring back the death penalty for serious crimes such as murder and rape/peadophilia. Justice must be dispensed.
That boy is 14 years old, and had some degree of responsibility. Teenagers who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults. Death penalty should be on hold until a person is 18 though.

My point stands. If I could decide on the penalty, it would be death by firing squad at 18.

NO. Thats a sick thing to say! execution is wrong, no matter how terrible the crime! every child deserves to live, no matter WHAT they have done! You are messed UP.

Psst! The thread was necroed, Shades. I surely wouldn't want to be held accountable for stuff I said about seven months ago. :P

man no one deserves to die at the age of 13 and the shooter, caleb sosa, went to my school EARHART MIDDLE SCHOOL, was invovled deeply in a gang. Poor christian, the victim, was barely starting to live his life. He even has his own song called "its too young to die." Everyone misses him.
