Lincoln, very probably America's greatest President, had surrounded himself with a cabinet that wasn't afraid to argue with him, or tell him that they had thought he was wrong. Fast forward to Donald Trump, probably America's worst President, who has surrounded himself with a$$ kissing sycophants. It's like the difference between day and night.

Lincoln was a vocal racist, who believed that Manifest Destiny extended into the Southern Hemisphere. Slaves "emancipated" from too-big-to-fail plantations, were offered '16-Tons' factory-store type-of accommodations, in the tropics, where Lincoln said they should be more climatically comfortable, also that integration would be selfish.

This office is a business interest. The cabinet is fawning after lucre, and so is the executive.

Who wasn't a racist back in Lincoln's time? That said, Lincoln was far ahead of most others during his lifetime.
Lincoln had considered resettling blacks elsewhere, though by the end of his life, he realized whites would have to learn to live side-by-side with blacks, stating even that voting rights would be extended to blacks. The speech in which he elaborated on that cost him his life, as John Wilkes Boothe was in the audience.
Where did you get the idea that Lincoln would turn rural black slaves into industrial slaves? I can tell you, that is simply untrue.
And where did you learn that Lincoln was all for expanding American rule into Latin America? Again, as Lincoln had lost his seat in congress due to his opposition to the War with Mexico, there is no evidence to support your assertion.

It is still quite common for Southerners to speak ill of Lincoln, ironically the first Republican president.

I think that's because they, in part, realize that the Republicans of the Civil War and Reconstruction era were hardly the same Republicans of today. That, and too many white southerners still believe in the "Lost cause" myth, and that Lincoln had defeated their ancestors while holding the high moral ground. Unfortunately, those southerners who had fought in the Union army have largely been forgotten, while Anti-Confederate guerillas like Mississippi native, Newton Knight, have been denigrated as traitors.

In the armrests of his monument, are the fasces, as in fascism. It's the opposite of moral free agency. Lincoln is a war criminal and a hypocrite.

You can have what Bush called the soft bigotry of lowered expectations. You can use mean words, all day, without putting anyone under the lash.

Lincoln used nice words, to dispossess people, by force.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasces
Quote:
Fasces (/ˈfæsiːz/, (Italian: Fasci, Latin pronunciation: [ˈfa.skeːs], a plurale tantum, from the Latin word fascis, meaning "bundle")[1] is a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. The fasces had its origin in the Etruscan civilization, and was passed on to ancient Rome, where it symbolized a magistrate's power and jurisdiction. The image has survived in the modern world as a representation of magisterial or collective power. The fasces frequently occurs as a charge in heraldry, it is present on an older design of the Mercury dime and behind the podium in the United States House of Representatives, it is used as the symbol of a number of Italian syndicalist groups, including the Unione Sindacale Italiana, and it was the origin of the name of the National Fascist Party in Italy (from which the term fascism is derived).

While the swastika – also a symbol with a long previous history – was deeply stigmatized by its association with Nazi Germany, the Fasces did not undergo a similar process because of association with Italian Fascism; its use remains acceptable in various legitimate contexts.

The Lincoln memorial was commissioned in 1920, before it's use by Italian Fascists. Nice try tho'...

The concept of fasces comes from ancient Rome, although, I would like to think that natural rights are universal. Lincoln suspended those of civilians.

Yes, Lincoln did in fact dispossess people of their ownership of other human beings. How was that bad, again?
Why is it you're so down on Lincoln, but give a pass to the Confederates who defended slavery, and who in fact had started the war?

The Confederacy in fact slaughtered whole Pro-Union communities with their borders. I think I prefer Lincoln's policy.
