A confused individual, suffering severe mental illness and delusions - a world-class chess champion Bobby Fischer has passed away today at the age of 64.

Many thanks for posting this.

I wouldn't say he was a "confused individual, suffering severe mental illness and delusions", but then again I don't know that much about Fischer's personal life.

He is a chess champion, and will remain one forever. 8)

I saw a documentary on the Biography Channel about Bobby Fisher, a colleague/friend of Bobby Fisher was interviewed and he said Fisher had Asperger's syndrome and that his AS explained his difficult personality - his obsessiveness, stubbornness, lack of empathy and social isolation.

Here is a clip from the biography, a description that is pathognomic of Asperger’s syndrome.

I watched the documentary a couple of times, and I listened several times to that interview ... to make sure I didn't mishear what was said.... I'm 100% certain that he said Fisher had AS .... it confirmed my suspicion.

Oh also, I'm very said to hear that Bobby Fisher died, he was the greatest ever chess genius who could have been even better.

His entire life was nothing but chess. He was the example of a person whose monomania was his undoing.

Was he an Aspie or wasn't he an Aspie? That is the question.

Probably not. You don't see the typical Aspie screaming about Jewish people (even more weird since he was half Jewish himself). It's not impossible, but it is unlikely.

Obsessive to the point of monomania, extremely reclusive, poor social skills, inability to relate to others on an emotional level, inability to relate to the rest of the world except on his own terms, high IQ, very highly sensitive. He was almost certainly AS and definitely paranoid. His raving about the Jews was paranoia, not AS.

By the way, paternity tests revealed that he was in fact 100% Jewish.

That doesn't really prove anything. From what I've read about him recently it seems very likely that he could be some sort of autistic savant.
