There's also:
"How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie, 1936;
"The Power of Positive Thinking" by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, 1952.

I am with you on Bardon. I have all of his books, well worth the money too.

I knew I couldn't be the only Aspie on WP that was into Bardon!

Merle

Well, there is a certain climate where to talk about some things seems inappropriate and knowing that I can so easily be the one to say exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time, well, some things I don't mention

I still have the Secret though, its a nice easy and inspiring read, like a novel where the princess always gets her man :D

I just watched this piece of metaphysical fluff, I could actually feel my IQ lowering, its aimed at simpletons, who are disparate for a magical cure for all there troubles, who think that thinking a magical positive puff as they showed in this movie, is going to attract all the wealth and greatness to them, its absolutely ludicrous. This inane insipid film is making dangerous claims of miracle cancer cures, and promises of gaining wealth though the use of positive thoughts, Since when has avarice and greed become a positive thought, well by that same premise I could use my negative thoughts at you.

The difference is, those are both good books with good ideas and a pretty decent (and enduring) reputation. The Secret is nothing more than a thinly-veiled marketing ploy aimed at today's generation of consumerist idiots.

No ,your right the secret is no secret at all , its just what they decided to call it. I'm sure it may have been a bit confusing if they called the movie the law of attraction . I don't think many people would have watched it if they had . I think they just took a few artistic liberties with the name , besides it has been called so many things in the past.

((tweety_fan wrote)
the positive thinking thing makes sense and has been written about in loads of books. but it is not perfect because it can deny the negative stuff that needs attention. and without attention the negative stuff will get worse.))

They said something about that in the movie.
"what your resist persists" They went on to say you cant ignore when something bad is going on in your life, you need to pay attention to what emotions your body is giving you. They said to acknowledge how you feel and then let it go. There not saying to ignore your negative emotions , if you do that they will over whelm you. You need to listen to what your emotions are telling you , solve the problem then try to see the good in your life.

((velodog wrote) If this has been "boiled down" to a science, then scientific method will apply, right? So how about sharing the specifics of the method as applied here? What is the :
1) observation?
2) hypothesis?
3) test devised?
4) evidence of repeatable results
I am very interested in the science behind this. Also what independent lab has verified the results? )))

It has been proven by a science. Quantum physics is finding out this is true along with many other things, its amazing the things they are finding to be true.

Who is finding things to be true? What are the observations? What hypothesis has been put forth? What test has been devised? Are the results repeatable? Have these alleged test procedures and results been scrutinized by the FDA or any accredited University Research labs?

In your very first post in this thread it says MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER EVEN CURE YOUR ASPERGERS. I'm with pakled, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I'm old enough to remember the cold fusion fiasco. On the face of it, at that time, the individuals involved were accredited researchers: Pons, with the University of Utah and Fleischman of South Hampton University in the UK. Their claim was that Palladium rods in heavy water created cold fusion. Were is cold fusion now just-me? You elected to bring science into this conversation. Now prove your case. You claimed a cure for Aspergers. PROVE IT!

Dr. Bronners. Smells good, hard to rinse off. ("Dilute, Dilute, Dilute.") I love the eucalyptus-hemp kind.

~Ahem~

I'll tell you this. "The Secret" was very popular with Real Estate and Mortgage salespeople, until the market crashed. Then they realized that sometimes you can think all the positive thoughts you want to, and the market still defeats you. I think you should be able to get a very good price on a used copy of this book...

I have heard of enough SECRETS to know what they really are! Not secret at all! The capital letters gave it away! I may be an aspie but I can see that sort of thing a mile away!

:lmao:

Really if you want to change your life, just take up an interest and put some serious backbone (dedication) into your hobby or pastime.

LOL of course its not a secret I said so my self  . I mean really guys.... It was named that to catch people attention. I see many of you are not interested in it thats fine . But how many of you have watched it and tried the methods? I mean really tried the methods. Not just for a week, try them for 6 months and see what manifests. The good things in your life will appear when you least expect them to. And half of the time you wont realize what you were wishing for actually happened till you look back on it. put some of that "serious backbone (dedication)" into it and you'll see.

You asked for proof of something I cant really prove unless I were to meet all of you in person. I have no more social problems I have cured my aspergers .

What does the FDA have to do with proving the secret ???? They are the food and drug administration , this is neither a food nor a drug. I fail the see the logic in your reasoning??? The scientific method " typical cop out " If you want to know if this really works look look into it .Do you believe everything you read? A wise person would try and prove things for himself (especially if it can do no harm in the processes). use your scientific method (in an impartial way.) If you do you'll need to take a good 6 months to a year to change your thinking properly. come back to me then , I'm sure even you will have proven this right.

I like me. I don't want to change.
And I can't tell you how annoying it is when people type IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It's just really bad.

I wanted to convey my excitement and I felt it needed capitals. If it upsets you that much you don't read it. :D
