What are the odds of this being another William Freund?

Unfortunately there are a lot of professionals that dont care either but professional help could have helped him if/when he got over this, if only to let him see there are far worse places to be than at home. Or at least it would help stop the bullying if he is under surveilence. Sometimes a change of scenery and a break from your life is all that it takes for someone to come to their senses.

if you mean this serious im feeling sorry: people in forums arent able to give a desperate man a professional help! i think you cant blame ppl in WP for this incidence. its the society around him which is to blame and in this case it seems to me that the laws that made it possible to buy guns easy like in the u.s.a. are most responsible!

as i said, all people - aspies or NTs - are in danger to run amok if they have mental problems. asperger's isnt a mental disease in my opinion!

Yes but to get that far he was clearly suffering from a mental disease so therapy and understanding from us but particularly people surrounding him in real life could have helped. Maybe not but i know of a few people that came out better from a little understanding and 'opting out' from life in an institution before. Theres really no point in anyone here feeling responsible because we only played a tiny part in his life and like lenny said it is where he was brought up, easy gun availability, himself and society in general that is in part to blame for things like this.

'Professionals' have been educated to deal with those with mental health problems not particularly care about them. I agree with you though that psychological help is the best that Will could have hoped for and is better than expecting society or individuals to suddenly change.

It was on the TV news, Fox. I bounce between Fox and CNN. It's probably on both since there is really no difference between these networks.

God. I had no idea he was actually serious in his posts; especially the suicide one. It honestly did seem like a prank (he seemed to be asking for money, which was confusing to me as to how it could be in the context of a sincere cry for help as opposed to manipulation); but as I said, the incoherency took away from that idea and made it seem more likely that he was actually in need of help. I'm sorry I didn't believe him; his posts were so utterly confusing.

I almost wonder if WP should require that contect information be given, to be kept confidential- I doubt this would get past anything though and most people would BS it. Still, he was honest, he might have given out the info...

On the topic of blaming anyone here:

Just imagine how his parents must feel. They lived with him and brought him to doctors, so I'm sure they are being eaten alive by guilt. WrongPlanet was too little too late to influence him in either direction.

His first posts here were asking for money donations for himself. It really pissed me off that someone would come on here and put up a PayPal link asking for hand-outs. There's enough beggers IRL, we don't need them online. So, right away I dismissed him as a joke.
