Wow, I didn't know kids that young can get charged for a crime. I knew kids young as ten do but not at 8.

well, just goes to show, spanking is a primitave tool of parenting that needs to be abolished. Hitting your child doesnt make them want to understand what they did was wrong, it just makes them hate you more.

I think where it happened, the legal age for responsibility is 8 years old.

Not necessarily true. I used to get a smack on the legs if I were naughty, but I understood why I was being smacked, as my parents told me why. I didn't like pain (still don't, at least, not "bad" pain ;) ), and so I learned my lesson quickly.

If you're getting smacked by a reasonable human being, there's probably a good reason why. He didn't get smacked for doing something really bad, and he knew that, which is why he hated his dad. And it's why a lot of abused children turn into hating adults.

If he'd been hit 1000 times in the face it would have been considered child abuse and the murder self defense. What a double standard. :?

There's been a tendency to try ever younger offenders as adults, and for serious crimes like murder, they just seem to ignore age anyway.

I can't say I blame him, though.

I once read of an 8 year old girl in Scotland, who stabbed her friend to death while playing. But the news article went on to say that the stabbing hadn't been an accident, that the girl did it on purpose. This was around 1973 or 1974.

I've been following this since it's a local story. Apparently this idiot father abused his kid and taught him how to use a gun. They're charging him with murder because he shot them multiple times and would have had to stop and reload each time.

By the way, I was abused as a child, and spanking is unproductive. After a while, you can learn to endure the pain and simply wait until it's over and then do what you want anyway. All it did was make me resent my parents even more.

Do the math on 1000 spankings. If you assume that he was being spanked twice a day, that's still over a year's worth of spankings. That kid was spanked a lot.

I really hope this kid can get the therapy and help he needs, and can someday live a normal, productive life. I feel very badly for this boy.

Yeah, I'd like to throttle all the people who knew he was being abused and didn't do enough to help him. From his grandparents' comments they knew he was being abused, and CPS (Child Protective Services) was called out to the house several times.

A 3yr old was booked for homicide last year in Uttar Pradesh, India. The policemen had a lot of questions to answer for that...

Dale Carenegie, in "How to win friends and influence people", wrote about one parent who got his children to clean up their room after playing by making them pretend to be engine drivers of a train, and made the game in such a way that they ended up cleaning their room. Reverse psychology.

Peace.

I wonder if anyone will now see that spanking is child abuse. It's also in a way sexual abuse, since a person's behind is close to their genitals. So really, it's pretty close to a form of rape, someone taking your pants down and manipulating you.

I guess next time I see an animal spank their child, I can say "I hope he has the sense to kill you like that boy in the news" Well that is what I would want to say to them, I imagine if someone can be that sadistic towards a child, there's nothing stopping them from physically attacking another adult either.

I remember a Simpsons where they went into Ned Flanders' past, and he went to some sort of re-education thing where he was spanked like over a year 24/7. Then when Ned's house was messed up by the neighbors trying to fix it, all the rage he repressed from when he was younger spilled out and he went completely nuts.

That's highly unlikely, and something of an unfair generalisation. To compare anyone who has ever spanked a child with some kind of sadistic rapist is insulting, wrong and retarded. There are thousands of children (of roughly my age or thereabouts) who received a slap as a means of discipline at some point in their youthful careers. There are whole generations of people who were regularly subjected to corporal punishment at home and school. How many of them went on to slaughter their parents? How many of their parents were sadistic abusive child rapists?

And you have a fairly odd take on what constitutes sexual abuse, I might add. If someone kicks you in the nuts in a fight is that sexual abuse, or just fighting? Glad to see you encourage patricide in toddlers as well.
