English Riding Show in a Cowboy Town
Wow, I bet bribing wouldn't have been necessary!
I currently am a teaching assistant for a class (not saying which, hehe) and am directly responsible for the grades of the undergraduate students in my class. Interacting with them, I can tell you that Yale undergraduates are no different from any other undergrads... meaning that there are really bright students, and there are other students that just make you want to go, "how the hell did you get accepted here?" And with the grading scheme for this particular class, it's almost impossible to get a grade lower than a B-. Failing out of school requires an average of lower than a C.
Some people like to make a big deal out of the Ivy League schools, but to me it's just like everywhere else. ![]()
This distresses me. I live in Texas, yet I am not really a Texan. I long to live anywhere where cowboy boots and jeans aren't accepted as fine evening wear or where cow skulls aren't deemed nice lawn/house ornaments.
I though cow skulls where car hood ornaments. lol.
There was a movie, "The Cowboy Way" with Woody Harelson in which he is asked if he is from Texas. He says "hell no, there are no real cowboys left in Texas, I'm from New Mexico. - lol

Do you think standards have dropped? Back in my day ... when I did my undergraduate degree, our professors said that if you couldn't write a good quality essay, they didn't believe you should get a degree from a University. When I went back a few years later as a tutor, this attitude had dissappeared.

I'm afraid that joke was too dumb to survive an explanation, but I guess I owe you one. It's based on the stereotype that when swedes learn english, they pronounce the "j" sound as a "y," so when a swede was saying "jail," he would pronounce it as "yale."

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?
You were quiet, just like mice. And now you say that we're not nice.
Well thank you buddy for your advice...

I'm glad y'all came around to run this thread in every possible direction. I was feeling really sad about my daughters, but now it don't seem so bad.

Sorry about the thread hijack though. I'm happy you're feeling better about the horse situation!
I'm not sure there actually was a topic.
