I always imagine the worst WHAT IF medically. You see violence on t.v. and see drama shows etc. I always imagine what if that was me?? No offense to anyone with major physical issues here but I imagine brain damage paralysis MAJOR MEDICAL ISSUES run through my head constantly. I've been having nightmares of driving off mountains into trees or into the ocean. Oxygen mask in a store bald with cancer. Again some of you on the boards OMG! have cancer paralysis etc. I don't know TRUE ISSUES but I IMAGINE IF they happen TO ME! :-(

Any way to deal with this anxiety?

Is it truly "not true" Sort of yes I'm healthy fine. BUT WHAT IF! Something happen? It takes that ONE CHANCE! Another one is my sister going to college in a bad neiborhood for law school I hope she makes it 3 years without being snatched and KILLED! BUT maybe that'll never happen??

BUT The world isn't all SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS! Bad s**t HAPPENS TO YOU ME ANYONE OF US AT ANYTIME!

Again BUT maybe stop worrying with all this violent death anxiety when it probably will never come to pass? BUT WHAT IF ANYTHING DOES HAPPEN THEN WHAT!!??

:-( So confused! Any help or tips? Anyone relate? Thank You WP.

When/if your worst fears actually happen, it might not be as bad as your anxious thoughts led you to believe. The world doesn’t end and life goes on with some adjustments.
I personally regret all the time I spent worrying about the small stuff, because when bad things happened, most of them were fears that I had brushed aside as improbable.

I drink tea and read physics. No amount of craziness in my life or my psyche ever struck me as reason to stop learning about what's really going on with this planet.

I had a phase where I was like that but it passed & I started worrying about other stuff. My anxiety's OK nowadays because I take Buspar for it & Neurontin for my OCD

this, thank you. it's definitely that way for me, i may fear doing something but if i let that fear get the best of me i end up regretting it even more later, than if i DID do it. :?

Just keep in mind the age old rule: The anxiety leading up to something is almost always worse than the reality of it. So if you're flipping out about something you're already worse off than you will be. So therefore having the thing finally occur will put you in a better position in that moment than you are now. It's a neat way of thinking about it....

I have a very mild car phobia. so when sitting on a bus, and it speeds a bit (bus drivers here really are pretty bad), I look out the window and concentrate on the trees and sky, lose myself it in, make myself absorb the beauty of nature and make myself calm down. It's hard at first, but when you get used to it then it works. I do this at the dentist's office and on the way to the dentist. it really does work.

another thing: at home, in a controlled environment, close your eyes and think of the worse case scenario and make yourself afraid, then think of a beautiful garden or the beachside, and force yourself to relax. this way you get control over your emotions.
