A huge power surge (related to this awful amount of rain we've been getting?) Yesterday caused my desktop computer to almost catch fire, fried the TV and blown several light bulbs... That was crazy! There was smoke coming out of the computer and the TV made this loud pop sound and everything went dark... Thankfully we had another undamaged computer, and someone else is giving us a different tv and nothing else seems damaged and nobody got hurt... But we seriously need to invest in surge protectors!! !

Yeah I'd say surge protectors would be a good idea, I always have my electronics plugged into one even if there isn't any rainy weather with lightning. I only ever have one computer at a time, so it would really suck to fry it considering how much I am on the computer.

Glad you're ok and no one got hurt.

Glad you are OK. Normally for LED TV's, damage is just a couple of 5 dollar capacitors. You should get it checked before you replace it.

Losing the microwave would be a disaster for me too.

Tons of rain here too (West Michigan), but no power surges at all. Definitely no lightning. Maybe something happened to a power line or transformer nearby?

In addition to surge protectors you may also want to get an Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) for your comp. That way your comp wont just shut off immediately when the power flickers or goes out. It would give you time to finish what your doing or it's doing & do a proper shutdown. My UPS c@pped out last year & I haven't bought another one yet partly cuz the power almost never goes out or even flickers here(maybe cuz we're in the city) & because my comp requires a special kind that's more expensive & I don't have a lot of money.

Actually what happened here I found out was the trailer park was using a pump to expell water and the pump shorted out and did something. Yeah, I'm near Battle Creek, the rain was just crazy after getting all that snow previously and flooded everything out.

Ugh. Hopefully there's some kind of insurance compensation.
