Here is the synopsis for my trip today:
1. Left San Marcos around 8:00am.
2. Passed through Wimberley, an art colony-type town (a la Taos, Park City, etc.).
3. Stopped in Fischer to see an old dancing hall, and an old bowling alley (when they still employed "pin boys", no robotic pin-setting).
4. Stopped at an old German Catholic cemetery.
5. Stopped for brunch in Blanco. I had a brownie and a jar of seasoned feta cheese.
6. Stopped in Johnson City and went to the LBJ Museum. I got a biography of LBJ on DVD. He went to the same university I do. Anyone know that he grew his hair long after leaving office in 1969?
7. Passed through Marble Falls, named for the marble quarries in the area, some of which was used to built the State Capitol building in Austin.
8. Passed through Horseshoe Bay, a high-dollar community on Lake Buchanan (cheapest houses are $750,000 and up to $3 million).
9. Stopped in Llano for lunch. We went to Cooper's BBQ. I ordered jalapeno sausage and a pork loin, and potato salad. Since everything was a la carte, no combo meals, it ended up coming to $16 for me.
10. Passed Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg (we didn't get to go up there due to time constraints), then went to Fredericksburg. Since I was still full from BBQ in Llano, I just ate a cream cheese croissant. It was the first day of Oktoberfest, a major event in Fredericksburg, but since it was Friday, it wasn't as crowded.
11. Went to Luckenbach, made famous by the Waylon Jennings song. It's just a beer joint, general store, and a dance hall.
12. Stopped in Blanco for a restroom break, then got back to San Marcos around 8:00pm.
