on my back, my face tends to go away from wherever the door to the room is.
Sleeping on a flat floor on your back can solve most back problems, I've heard.

Almost never on my right side because of a bad shoulder, but only for short periods on my left because of no support for my right arm there. So, I usually begin on my back with heavy cover and with my head buried in a pillow covering my ears, and with another pillow under my knees to give my back some relief ... then I adjust or toss and turn as needed in order to try to find a pain-free position for my right arm ... and my wife occasionally prods me to roll over on my side whenever my snoring or teeth-grinding greatly disturbs her own sleep, and she wakes me out of bad dreams whenever she hears me trying to shout out in anger or fear. But, sometimes I just sleep right here or in a chair in the living room whenever I feel too tired or weak to get up and go to bed.
