When someone is rude to you, do you take the higher ground and maintain your lovely politeness, or do you give like for like?

I accept that I am rude, when I am it is unintentional because I'm simply not always aware of others or how my actions/words may seem to them, it's not an excuse however and so I try to be polite as much as possible...however, call me a bad person but sometimes I will opt for like for like because sometimes it just feels goooood to be rude back.

Take people who push onto the metro before you have a chance to get off, who cut in front of you in queues, or who don't let you past on the pavement - don't you just love pushing right back, shooting them an angry stare, or tutting loudly? Or do you view rudeness as contagious, that it's just this sort of like-for-like that makes us all so darn rude?

Like for like... I'd say 90% of the time. Probably higher than that... Meh... 96% or 97%

I try to be polite, but a knee-jerk response is not uncommon for me. I do it before I realize I'm doing it.

I do a combination of both. Keep it civil, keep name calling out of it but clearly question them preferably with words so large they need a minute to figure out why people are laughing.

I like to keep polite when somebody's rude to me. Just because another person is rude to me means that I have to stoop down to their level.

Let me correct that. 95% Of the time, I like to be very polite. 5% Of the time, I just have to stick up for myself.

98% of the time I smile nervously and otherwise, outwardly, don't react at all. But I tend to hold on to these things until one day...BOOM. Knee-jerk. And it is usually bad....
